Launderette · 4 March 07 by Ray Crowley

In early 2005 I opened a gallery in Cork City. The building dates to the 1850s and was a public house (pub) until the 1950s when it became a Launderette. The frontage was clad in black vitrolite and was adorned with a beautiful chrome sign.

I took the design decision to retain the brand. The gallery would simply be know as ‘Launderette’.

As with many creative endeavors it is ‘better to burn out than to fade away’. So, I closed the space on christmas eve 2005 after six solo shows, three group shows, €60K in sales and many encounters with artists, collectors and the curious public.

I allowed the web domain to expire last month. Now the space exists in memory only. So here are some of the brand elements built by bite! and images preserved for posterity.
